After a few years of waiting and many a gentle shove from Jess, we have now got our lease! We’ll be starting the 3 Hares Community woodland proper in 2017. Watch this space for events, opportunities to get involved and our AGM.

Three Hares have a spring in their step as the Community Woodland project has been awarded an Action Earth grant from Volunteering Matters, run in partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage. We plan to use this money to improve access onto the land. Want to help? Get in touch!!

TCV (The Conservation Volunteers) have included an article about Three Hares Community Woodland in their Spring Bulletin. You can check it out here (Page 8):
Through TCV we applied for a grant from The Chestnut Fund to help with some start up costs. Happily we were awarded money to help pay for our insurance (we’ve got it all covered, pals!) and money toward the purchase of some tools. So watch out for us whizzing about with our new, shiny wheelbarrow. In fact, we will have two, so come and whizz one around for yourself!
We are now officially online……….with facebook!!

The first of – we hope – many Annual General Picnics was held on the 13th of December and we were delighted to welcome around 70 of the local community interested to see what we are planning and bringing lots of ideas of their own. This was one of many events planned for the coming months – see events page for details. Come along and join in!
A Woodland Design Course using the combined skills and enthusiasm of Three Hares members and visiting permaculture design students took place over a couple of recent weekends. Participants braved the rain to carefully examine the site, mapping its possibilities and coming up with suggestions for future development. Ideas under consideration include a central hub pavilion/building, increasing the amount and variety of trees grown on the site, a forest garden, growing vegetables, craft and woodland skills workshops, children’s events, and much more.
Participants worked together to whittle the incredible range of possible activities down to prioritising what is going to happen first, and a timescale. A key intention is to get as many local people involved as possible, so if you’d like to take part, contact us!
