Slight change of plan…

Due to some, ahem,’technical’ issues, Kuchke will be postponing the 1st April performance of ŠUMA at Three Hares.  So watch this space for when this will be happening!

However, we will still have Kuchke singing some of their favourite Balkan tunes.  Not to be missed!

Over 700 trees to plant this weekend!

We have acquired another 300 native trees along with the 430 from The Woodland Trust to plant tomorrow (Sat 11th March) and Sunday 12th.  10am-4pm each day.  Campers welcome!

We have also been donated 10 Scots Pines that a nice man has grown from seed in Edinburgh and have the opportunity to cut 100 willow whips from our neighbour, pass them across the river and plant them at Three Hares.

So come on down and give us a hand!

It’ll be lovely!!

Official Three Hares Relaunch and AGP. 1st April, 2017. 2pm-6pm

We will wake the fire, munch our picnics, keep the official business brief and be enchanted by a performance of ŠUMA by Kuchke and composer Zoë Irvine.

ŠUMA is a sound walk with radio transmission, singing and the sounds of the woodland.  If you have a transistor radio, bring it along!  Find out more here:

What is an AGP?  Well, it’s like an AGM (Annual General Meeting) but we like to have an Annual General Picnic.  It sounds and feels less business like.

Why a relaunch?  We thought that we needed to let everyone know that we have finally sprung into action after waiting for our lease for over 2 years!!

What do I need to bring?  A picnic, warm clothes, boots and a transistor radio if you have one.

See you on the land!

200 Willow Whips in the Ground!

Today we gathered in the beautiful sunshine and snow to design and plant up the beginnings of our new willow site.

4 Varieties each planted into a different directional point to mark out a compass, with plans to create a living willow dome and sitting area in the centre.

200 is only the beginning!  Watch this space for MUCH more willow planting to come!!!

Tree Planting

At the beginning of last Spring the first trees went into the ground at the Three Hares Community Woodland thanks to our generous neighbours.  150 native species, an easy task, helped by volunteers and a good sunny day.  We even basked in the sunshine as we shared a picnic after the work was done.

Last November a further 230 trees, donated by TCV and again native species, were planted at the Three Hares.  Rowan, Downy Birch, Lime, Oak, Goat Willow, Alder, Hawthorn, Blackthorn…

According to a  post at the end of last year by the Woodland Trust, in the UK ‘tree planting rates have plummeted to an all-time low.’  It is also noted that ‘woodland cover across the UK is just 13%’.

We have more trees to plant!

11th and 12th of March 2017 is our tree planting weekend.  We have 450 trees donated by the Woodland Trust, along with steaks and guards.  As 450 trees aren’t a lot to plant, expect an easy weekend!  We’ll start on Saturday at 10am.

Campers welcome!
