Orchard Planted!!

Thanks to all the Volunteers who came down yesterday (Sun 25th Feb), including the mighty Dirty Weekenders Crew from Edinburgh Uni.

We planted the Community Orchard! We also laid some mulch mat around the base of the trees to give them a bit of support in thriving, next job is to fertilise with manure. In the future we look forward to sampling the heritage apples: Lass O’Gowrie, Stobo Castle, James Grieve and Hoods Supreme. Thanks to Appletreeman, Perthshire for propagating the trees, and to Volunteering Matters Action Earth for funding, alongside Crown Estate Environment grant.

We also managed to get some wood moved, chopped and stacked so as our groups can wake the fire when they are on the land. We enjoyed time around the fire yesterday, a reminder of how the Volunteer Days are great for getting work done, but also the time spent with others chatting around a fire is food for the soul.

Join us on the 31st March for our next volunteer day!
