Welcome back, Venture Trust

This month we were glad to welcome back Venture Trust for more outdoor therapy training. The crew gave back to Three Hares by helping us nurture our newly planted trees with a day of tree care.

Venture Trust ‘use Scotland’s outdoors and work in communities to deliver intensive personal development for people, at any stage in their life, struggling with issues such as involvement in the criminal justice system, long term unemployment, recovery from addiction, homelessness or risk of homelessness, isolation, and a history of trauma or harm.

We are so pleased to host Venture Trust at Three Hares, to support the great work they do, and appreciate the efforts they have put into helping to look after our trees!

Trees? Yes Please!

This Volunteer Sunday at Three Hares (26th March) we planted more native broadleaf trees donated to us by TCV (The Conservation Volunteers) as part of their ‘I Dig Trees Campaign’ which aims to plant 1million trees in the UK each year.

Oak, Silver Birch, Hazel, Rowan, Alder…

We were joined by TreeSisters Edinburgh Grove who ‘gather in circle with other treesisters to explore Sisterhood, feminine Nature based leadership and… care and restoration.’ They are based at the Salisbury Centre, Edinburgh, welcome new members and are part of the global network of TreeSisters , ‘people coming together for the trees and funding the reforestation of the planet‘.

Next Volunteer Sunday is 30th April, 11am-3pm. See you there?

Venture Trust Outdoor Therapy Training

Back in September, Venture Trust held a two-day Outdoor Therapy training course at the Three Hares Community Woodland. The course was attended by counsellors and outdoor professionals from varying backgrounds. The participants enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the site to explore their inner and outer worlds and experiment with the use of metaphor and nature as co-facilitator/co-therapist in their practice.

Venture Trust’s Outdoor Therapy service aims to support people by combining the full range of benefits from time in nature and the outdoors with professional therapy to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Outdoor Therapy is delivered in urban outdoor and green spaces such as parks, community gardens, woodlands, beaches, or local hills. It can help people gain perspective and reflect on past or current life events that are troubling. Metaphors offered by nature may develop into insight on feelings, relationships, and experiences. – Rich (Tilly) Tildesley, Venture Trust

Three Hares Woodland…was the perfect location in so many ways. When we were reflecting on running the training afterwards, we reflected that it couldn’t really have been more perfect. The site has such a wonderful variety of spaces, a firepit, the water, the hut, and the compost loo! – Katarina Horrox, Clinical Manager, Venture Trust

Thank you and Congratulations to Mona!

Mona Kastell has won Gold medal at the World Stage Design 2022 Awards in ‘Alternative Design’ for her set design for ‘Glimpsing Air Pockets'(pictured above), a Scottish immersive, multi-sensory dance theatre production bridging stage design with Nature connection to shape sustainable communities and wellbeing.

Creative Scotland funded Mona’s World Stage Design 2022 attendance in Calgary, Canada to exhibit her nominated Ecoscenographic set design and to work alongside international peers, lead ecological workshops, promote Ecostage (an online initiative to promote sustainable performing arts practice) and network to develop ecological design thinking in the international performing arts industry.

Mona included an extra fee as part of her funding application to be donated to a local Scottish woodland to help offset her international flight and encourage local environment regeneration for which she chose Three Hares Community Woodland.

Thank you, Mona, and congratulations!
